Isea Karsli is the young talent who decided to make creativity and craftsmanship her profession, through the creation of the brand J’ISO LABO, born in 2024 to challenge the rules of traditional jewelry.
How did your passion for jewelry begin?
My passion for jewelry arose from a love of manual creation and the desire to transform raw materials into something meaningful and enduring. After years dedicated to predominantly digital art forms and fields like communication and media, I felt the need to immerse myself in an art form that I personally perceive as more “tangible.” Creating jewelry allows me to bring objects to life that can become part of people’s daily lives, establishing a visual and personal dialogue between the object and the wearer.
When was your brand founded, and why did you decide to embark on this journey?
J’ISO LABO came to life in 2024 as an expression of my desire to merge artistic vision with craftsmanship. I felt the need to create a brand that represented my artistic identity and challenged the conventions of traditional jewelry, offering sculptural and genderless creations. J’ISO LABO is a response to my artistic journey — something personal and unique, where each piece carries a story and becomes a special part of the wearer’s life.
What educational path did you follow to develop the skills necessary for your work?
I studied photography at Middlesex University in London, then pursued a short Master in marketing and communication at Accademia Numen in Milan and a Master in media production and management at The New School in New York. I then worked for years in the art and communication fields across Europe and the United States. These experiences taught me how to tell visual stories and provided me with an interdisciplinary perspective on arts and culture. Additionally, my family has a jewelry-making tradition, and after spending my childhood around workshops and artisans, this year I finally decided to embrace this innate passion and hone my skills in this craft. At the beginning of 2024, I embarked on a goldsmithing course to deepen my technical knowledge and turn this discipline into my profession, creating my unique dialogue between art and craftsmanship.
What is your brand’s mission and core values?
The mission of J’ISO LABO is to create jewelry that is more than just adornment: a form of personal and narrative expression. My core values are craftsmanship, storytelling, and inclusivity. Each piece is unique and designed to be genderless. The themes of identity and transformation are central to my work. I believe that jewelry should reflect the fluidity of human nature — an intimate and enduring work of art that accompanies the wearer through their changes and evolution.
What have been the most significant challenges for your brand?
The biggest challenge has been building a brand that stands out while maintaining authenticity and craftsmanship in such a competitive industry. Each piece is handmade, which requires time, precision, and absolute dedication to quality, but it allows me to stay true to J’ISO LABO’s values and what I aim to communicate through my art.
What advice would you give to a young person wanting to follow this path?
My advice is not to be afraid to experiment and to find your own artistic voice, even if it doesn’t fit conventions. Patience and authenticity are essential. Develop your skills and keep your passion alive, as craftsmanship is a journey that requires dedication and commitment. In an increasingly digital world, don’t hesitate to dive into a field that might seem outdated at times. On the contrary, there’s something (if not more!) extraordinarily fulfilling about creating and receiving a tangible, handmade object. A piece of jewelry has weight, texture, and energy that conveys presence. It’s a complete sensory experience for both the maker and the wearer, and it represents a lasting connection to art.
What do you dream of for the future?
I dream of continuing to grow J’ISO LABO, creating meaningful collaborations and expanding my artistic dialogue internationally. I hope that my jewelry not only adorns but also inspires the wearer, inviting them to reflect on their stories and the interconnectedness of art and life. Another ambition is to open an Atelier that becomes a space for experimentation and connection, where people can engage directly with the creation of jewelry and the artistic process.
